The seventh event at the 2010 World Series Of Poker was the $2,500 buy-in 2-7 Triple Draw Lowball Event which commenced on the 1st day of June, 2010. This year, a good turnout of 291participants, which included poker pros and lowball specialists, turned up for the event to go for glory at probably one of the only draw variant events now left in the World Series Of Poker.
There was a very good number of big names from the world of poker who turned up for the event, and we also so some of the well known old school gamblers with the likes of Archie Karas showing up for the event. Players finishing in the top thirty spots of the tournament were to be paid in the event, with the player securing first spot guaranteed to bad a cash prize of $180,720.
There were quite a few notable names among those who finished in the top thirty to take home money, such as David Singer in 30th spot and just getting into the money zone, Jon Turner in 27th place, Hoyt Corkins in 23rd place, Greg Mueller in 20th spot, Allen Kessler in17th position, Eli Elezra coming upto 15th spot, and Ted Forrest securing an admirable12th spot.
The 2nd day of the event, could not create a final table and fell short by just one. The final eight contenders returned to the arena on the 3rd day to play for the final table, and ultimately the coveted golden bracelet. Tad Jurgens was the first to bow out from the table, and finished in 8th place. Jurgens had a tough time as Ralph Zimmerman on the first draw drew three, and then two on the second draw, and finally wound up patting on the third draw after having caught a rough seven. Jurgens unable to beat it, bowed out and went on to collect his $17,903 cash prize for 8th place.
David Chiu was the most noted name in a final table that saw Raphael Zimmerman taking a seat at the table as chip leader. The final seven players at the table were as follows:
Seat 1: David Chiu 200,000
Seat 2: Jameson Painter 118,000
Seat 3: Leonard Martin 124,000
Seat 4: Raphael Zimmerman 565,000
Seat 5: Don McNamara 486,000
Seat 6: Peter Gelencser 526,000
Seat 7: Shunjiro Uchida 167,000
David Chiu finished the tournament bowing out in a commendable 4th place for this event. His tournament ended when he went all-in for a pre-draw against Don McNamara, who was standing pat right from the start. Chiu drew on the first and second draw attempts and just stood pat with an 8-7 in hand. Don McNamara showed his hand of 8-6 and Chiu was done with the tournament.
Heads-up play eventually began between Raphael Zimmerman and Peter Gelencser who were first and second respectively in chip count at the start of the final table. Again it was Zimmerman who was still in the lead at the start of the heads up battle and led 1.39 Million to 730,000. Gelencser played patiently and made a huge comeback after he caught a wheel (7-5-4-3-2) against Zimmerman and did not look back after that to speed his way to winning a bracelet. The final hand had Zimmerman all-in with the last of his meagre chips and facing a nine from Gelencser. Zimmerman got a draw to an eight, but missed eventually.
The final payouts of the tournament were as follows:
1 Peter Gelencser 180,730
2 Raphael Zimmerman 111,686
3 Don Mcnamara 73,803
4 David Chiu 50,157
5 Jameson Painter 34,843
6 Leonard Martin 24,723
