2010-07-06
Well, Sammy Farha has secured his third WSOP bracelet by winning the $10k Omaha/8 event at the 2010 WSOP championship, and a cash prize of whooping $488,237. One could have definitely expected more drama in the final hand, but it looked like it wasn’t just Dempsey’s day, who finished second with $301,790, failing just short of his second WSOP bracelet.
It was one hell of a fight between Dempsey and Farha for quite some time, but in the end Sammy wrapped it up in a comical fashion; a classy finish to the Omaha/8 $10k buy in event.
Farha won the third bracelet with limits 180k 360k, and whopping 90k 180k blinds, and everyone knew that it would hardly be a matter of few hands strung together to see a winner; and, it turned out to be Sammy’s day.
Dempsey was forced to hunt for a double-up, even with a weak hand, and no wonder the hardest fought heads-up game soon turned into a nightmare for Dempsey, as Farha's J-9 went ahead of Dempsey's J-8.
The average stack was $6,360,000, and it all boiled down to Farha vs Dempsey as this superbly contested Omaha/8 Championship came to an end. Dempsey was really close to his second WSOP bracelet, but all his dreams were shattered with Farha’s flop, and Farha's J-9 over his J-8.
Sammy Farha has been a featured Poker player who had won the 1996 $2,500 Pot Limit Omaha w/Rebuys bagging a total cash of $145,000, and the 2006 $5,000 Omaha Hi-Lo (8 or better) cashing in a whooping $398,560, before grabbing the 2010 WSOP $10,000 Omaha Hi-Low Split-8 or Better Championship with a reward of $488,241!
Farha entered the Poker arena after moving to Houston, and his entry was quite dramatic as he won thousands of dollars in his very first game. He happens to be a graduate in Business Administration from University of Kansas, and eventually Sammy quit his job in 1990 turning into a full time poker player.
In the 2003 WSOP main event, he was fairly close to the biggest victory of his lifetime, but he ended up at second place bagging $1,300,000.
He had a good season in the2005 WSOP main event too, and eventually went on to win the main event next year too. One of the most interesting fact about Farha’s performances at the WSOP is that all of Farha's bracelets have been in Omaha events.
Apart from playing poker, Farha also takes interest in writing, and acting. He had made cameo appearance in a film, Lucky You, during the year 2007.
There are rumors in the air that Farha is working on a book titled ‘Luck is Not Enough, a reality TV poker series’, and even a video game!
Farha is known for playing high stakes Omaha cash games, and he currently boasts of $2,020,155 in 7cash ins at the WSOP Omaha events.
What’s more, he has bagged over $2,300,000 in live tournament poker, and happens to be one of the most successful players in the Poker arena.
